Just in the process of ripping this little gem on german liberty records. (i bought this a few years ago now outside the Jazz cafe in camden london off a guy called percy, he had some gr8 records back then!!! It has a Great modal version of scarborough fair, paul simon has never sounded so good lol!!!!
Also features Raga Up and Down and brazilian thoroughfare amongst others!!!

hi Ambrose,
not such a big fan of Passport (anymore, the "eloy-years" have left me for a few decades) anymore,
I'm gonna try this ANYWAYS...
(1969 + a very "funky" cover) I'll get back to you with the listening results... Thanks for the link back you're up over here as well:-)
peace, E-mile
PS Bradford did well!!! Absolute GEM & wish I'd head it in my shelves somewhere (and about 10 years earlier)

Thanks Ambrose.
That version of scarborough fair is even better than the London Jazz Four's!

You can't believe what a pleasure this post means to me. This is for my taste the best Doldinger album -- period. I can't understand why it was never reissued on CD. The same is also true of Doldinger's Blues Happening (which was posted on CIA a few months back).

In any case, this is an outstanding rip you did here. I wish I had kept my copy of the LP in such pristine condition.

Many, many thanks!

And I agree that Doldinger's rendition of Scarborough Fair is the best I've come across. Simon & Garfunkel's version of this English ballad pales in comparison (although it was this Simon & Garfunkel version that most likely inspired Doldinger to record his version). Even the Cream's I Feel Fine gets a new and somewhat unexpected treatment here. In short, not a single lousy track on this double LP.

I just listened to this and I love every note. The zest, the confidence, the tone - already Doldinger uses an echoplex on some tracks, which would become mandatory, even cliched, in Passport, but here it still sounds original, fresh.

The sixties weren't just the Beatles and hippies. New talents emerged in many fields capturing a new mood.

I saw Passport in the 70's and they were the tightest best band ever, especially the drummer, but this early Doldinger stuff is something else again.

I have this fabulous double lp but over the years it's impossible to get the digital recording on the conventionals music stores. Anyboby can help me?

Thanks

Josep, This double LP (as well as Blues Happening) were never issued on CD. AFAIK there have only been three cuts from Ambassador on three different compilation CDs (Brazilian Thoroughfare on Gl├╝cklich Vol. I; Raga Up and Down on Best of Doldinger ACT; Scarborough Fair on Bluesy Toosy ACT). They're all OOP. I wonder if Universal (who now owns Liberty) will ever reissue these recordings. Until that happens you just need to enjoy these rather excellent LP rips (counting the present Ambassador and Blues Happening on CIA as well).

Thank you Otto. We have to wait (and maybe pressing Universal?). There is a similar case -not so difficult- with a Ray Charles album: Just between us. At last I got it! If there is some strange work you're searching for and I can help you... no doubt!!

Otto and Anonymous: do you know a Joan Bibiloni soundtrack, VIAJE EN EL TIEMPO?. And the best Walter Wanderley work: WHEN IT WAS DONE?. For a long time it were difficult to get.... now they are on iTunes. I think one day we will find The Ambassador there
We have to write to Universal... maybe all together

Josep said...

Sorry, WHEN IT WAS DONE it's not on iTunes
